In The Beginning

Dream Team Flyball Club was established in 1998 and registered with NAFA in 2000 by Norm Forbes and his mother Vi, as well as his Border Collie Caesar. The team started with a one hole box and some jumps. Flyers were put up in grocery stores, vet offices, etc. and soon enough we had enough dogs for one team. Dream Team competed in the first tournament in Matsqui and although we did not finish a full heat, it was lots of fun! Back to practicing and now here we are today.

We are a recreational team that practices in Port Moody, B.C. We offer practices for beginners on Sundays at 10:45 AM at the Ioco Field - rain or shine! If you are interested in spectating or attending a practice, please contact us using the form on the home page.

Our club is registered with the North America Flyball Association (NAFA), club #364, region 7 (Washington, Oregon and B.C.).

Location

Port Moody, BC, on the corner of 1st Ave and Ioco Road. We practice outside on a field, so be prepared for the cold and possible rain!

What to Expect

We have our new dog practice at 10:45 AM on Sundays in an outdoor field, that is not entirely closed off, so if your dog is not reliable off leash, we wish for you to be prepared to work your dog on-leash, and work on engagement exercises outside of practice. When beginning flyball there is LOTS of repetition, so be prepared to spend lots of time working on one or two aspects of it for extended length of time. When you are not working your dog, we ask that you try to keep control over your dog to keep from distracting the currently working dogs. Most importantly we want you to have FUN! Flyball is all about creating a bond with your dog and having a fun outlet for you and your dog!

Cost

Your first day is entirely free of charge, as we believe in keeping flyball a lower cost sport, and to give more people a chance to try it out! Once you have come for your free trial, it is then $20 for 8 weeks of lessons.
If after 8 weeks you wish to continue practicing with us, there is an annual fee of $50.

- treats (higher value, as it is a stimulating environment)
- your dogs favorite toy (or even better a tug) as in flyball we find toys/ tugs to be one of the best training tools and really encourage the game of tug between dog and handler!
- A buckle collar or martingale (please no prong collars or check chains; collars are frequently handled during flyball)
- A crate if you wish, or be prepared to have your dog wait in your vehicle if needed, as we do have cycles and when your dog is not practicing we wish for them to be under control and not distracting the dog that is currently training.
- A leash (please no flexi leashes)
